Curriculum Intent
Fulbrook School recognises the value of a high-quality education and in designing the curriculum, the school considers what it wants its young people to know and to be able to do by the time they leave.
Regardless of their starting point, it is the school’s intention to enable all children to develop the confidence, knowledge and skills to make decisions, to self-evaluate, to make connections and to be lifelong learners. They will be encouraged and enabled to achieve their aspirations and to become compassionate, respectful and responsible citizens.
The development of emotional health, wellbeing and resilience, for both students and staff, is a key priority and central to the design of the curriculum.
Fulbrook encourages students to:
- Have a sense of self-belief and to be resilient, self-aware, open-minded, cooperative and considerate in school, as well as in all areas of their life
- Enjoy and be engaged in their learning, as active learners, who have positive attitudes, a growth mindset and a thirst for discovery
- Understand what they have achieved and know what to do to make progress
- Be independent, enthusiastic, self-motivated and curious learners, who raise their own questions
- Work collaboratively and cooperatively with others, recognising the value of mutual support
- Have time to evaluate and reflect on their learning
- Have teachers, who inspire their learning and encourage them to be creative, critical thinkers
- Be challenged, make good progress and experience success
- Develop emotionally, spiritually, morally and as members of their community, with the ability and desire to make a positive contribution to society
- Lead safe, healthy and fulfilling lives
At Fulbrook all students in Years 5 and 6 are taught by our primary team and, for the majority of their two-week timetable, their own class teacher. They will have some of their lessons taught by subject specialist staff, such as PE, art and food technology.
Students in Years 7 - 11 are taught by subject specialist teachers. They benefit immensely from the expertise of core subject specialist teaching in English, mathematics and science, as well as in French; art; music; drama; technology; computing; history; geography; philosophy, beliefs and ethics; and PE specialist teaching.Â
At KS4 (Years 10 and 11), specialisms extend to the range of GCSE subjects on offer.
